Sorry bout not writing in a while ladies (that’s including you gents), been busy writing lots, but a recent publication by APN got me worked up again.
Apparently in a recent poll by Cartoon Network surveying 1475 adolescents, the most commonly aspired to role model was, of all people…. Paris Hilton….
The blonde ninny with an IQ of 4 who has about as much sense as the “toad crossing the highway” and is famous for being a spoilt ninkompoop.
It is consistant (worryingly) with a survey conducted 2 years ago that discovered todays youths top job aspiration was to be “famous” – what for? They didn’t care.
It is also consistant with an increasingly hyper-real consumerist society we are rapidly moving towards (for those of you who are academia, which of unlikely due to this being a blog, there’s some Baudrillard for ya).
This might be a bit of a blanket statement seeing as western and eastern cultures are so distinctive – but, while everyone is worrying about the future of the environment, economy, fuel and food shortages, I say, we need to worry about increasing the intelligence of future generations before we become too stupid to provide solutions for the previously mentioned dilemmas.
We are told that each successive generation is smarter than any before them. I say we have just become better imitators, to the point where society now revolves around the want to aspire to imitate exact (and mostly shallow) people.
If you haven’t noticed already, I loathe stupidity…
